Patriots Set School Record with 18 Hits in 17-11 Win

  • Franklin Academy Patriots Varsity (8-3, 3-2) and Franklinton played a taut affair on Monday, but Franklin Academy eventually prevailed 17-11 after taking the lead for good in the sixth inning. The game was tied at ten with Franklin Academy batting in the top of the sixth when Zachary Taylor crushed a pitch to the center-field wall with the bases loaded, driving in two runs, giving the Patriots a lead they would not relinquish.
  • Taylor went 4-for-5 at the plate.  He singled in the fourth, doubled in the fifth, singled in the sixth, and tripled in the seventh.  He has 7-for-8 in the last two games, raising his average to .314 on the season, with a team leading 15 RBIs.  
  • Franklin Academy captured the lead in the first inning.  Franklin Academy Patriots Varsity scored one run when Chandler Williams tripled with zero outs in the first inning, scoring Lucas Wier.  
  • Franklinton scored six runs in the fourth inning with the help of errors by the Patriots.  
  • Williams (2-1) earned the win for the Patriots, slamming the door shut from the moment he stepped on the mound. He threw three and a third innings, surrendering one run, three hits, striking out four, and walking one.  Perry took the loss for Franklinton. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs, seven hits, and striking out one.  Jack Osbourne was outstanding as the starter for Franklinton.  
  • Several school records were tied or broken in the contest.  Franklin Academy collected a school record 18 hits in the game.  Taylor (4), Trevor Rohrs (3), Jason Plant (3), Jacob Joyner (2), Lucas Wier (2), Armistead (2), and Williams (2) each collected multiple hits for the Patriots.  Another record was tied with four triples in the game:  Taylor, Plant, Williams, and Armistead grabbing 3-baggers.  This gives this years team the record for triples in a season with nine.  
  • The 8-3 Patriots are currently ranked 23rd in the state for 1A teams.  They play Tuesday Friendship Christian HS at 6pm.
