The Patriots varsity baseball team had a good showing at the JF Webb Easter Tournament this weekend. They started the tournament with a resounding 15-2 win versus Granville Central. They were shutout 12-0 by Kerr-Vance Academy, the eventual tournament champions. This positioned them to play in the third place game. This game was a battle - eventually losing to a Division 3 team, Northern Vance 7-8. Northern led 6-2 at one point, only to have the Patriots battle back and tie the game 7-7 on a bases loaded double by Robert Driver. Northern scored in the 6th to take the lead that would hold.
Although all the Patriots had a great tournament, three were selected to the All-Tournament team.
-Trevor Rohrs - Rohrs got his first start as a pitcher and pitched a complete game in the 15-2 win over Granville Central. He pitched 7 innings, allowing only one earned run and only four hits, striking out 6. He also has 5 hits in 9 at bats over the 3 games.
-Lucas Wier - Wier was selected for his incredible defense at second base, making multiple ESPN worthy plays. He also reached base 5 times in the 3 games, stealing 6 bases, continuing to stay on fire.
-Robert Driver -Driver got the call in game 3 and pitched a complete game. On top of hitting the bases loaded double to tie game 3, he had 2 doubles in the 3 games. He pitched great in game 3, with only 5 of the runs earned.
The Patriots are at home this Friday, April 1st, at 4pm at Flaherty Park versus Pilot Mill (Raleigh Charter). Admission is FREE so come by after school.
