Franklin Academy's JV Volleyball team gets its' first win of the season, defeating Cary Academy 2-0. Rebounding from a season opening loss, the Lady Patriots improved in all aspects of the game as they thoroughly dominated Cary, winning 25-17, 25-7.
Captain Gabriella Gaviria (junior) and Kenzie Hill (freshman) provided strong outside hitting along with right side hitting from freshman Brooklyn Barnes and middle hitting by freshmen Carly Harris and Cameron Monroe. Serve receive was much improved and the strong passing from freshmen Megan Rivenbark and Jennifer Pates, as well as captains Callie Monroe and Reese Taylor set the tone for the match. Solid defense led to an effective offense. Freshmen middle blocker Ali Hess and outside hitter Tory Mullis provided several strong offensive and defensive plays in the second set as the team clearly dominated the outmatched Cary Academy squad.
The team showed significant improvement in serving as sophomore Mackenzie Long again led the way with 12 straight serves at one point. Brooklyn Barnes closed out the match with an ace. It was great to see the everyone contribute to this team win. Next week doesn't get any easier as the team faces three strong teams in Neuse Christian (home on Monday, 8/20), Franklinton (away on Wednesday) and perennial power NRCA (away on Thursday).
