This weekend the men's and women's cross country varsity teams competed in the NC Runners Elite Invitational held on the same course as the state championship. Both teams were entered in the Championship division races so they could race against the bigger schools. The men's team placed 6th overall and women's team placed 5th. Many came away running their best times of the the season with two runners taking more than a minute off their best time! Freshman Sam Burr shaved off 1:22 off her previous best, running an impressive 20:45. Adan Rodriguez, a junior and first year cross country runner, slashed 1:05 to run 18:56. Standout junior runner, Caitlyn Burkett, also had a great race finishing 5th overall as an individual in a blazing time of 18:59, breaking the old school record of 19:06 set by Hannah Zenker. Next up: Conference Championship this Wednesday at Forest Hills Park in Durham.
