FA Tennis Making Waves in Individual and Dual Team Playoffs
From the desk of Coach Duffy The FA Mens' Tennis Team is continuing with its success this season. As a team, they just dominated a tough conference opponent, NCSSM, in the 2nd round of the team playoffs. The score was 6-0. Our 3rd round foe will be Whiteville, a conference champ with a 12-3 record, at home on Wed. May 8. On the individual side of the post-season, we just played the 2A Mid East Regional. FA's 4 players in that tournament did as well as is possible. Alphonso Sison won the singles title. In the finals he defeated his own teammate, Akil Vinodh. First and second in singles! In doubles, our team of Derek Shute and Nick DeLisio took the medal, winning in the finals over Research Triangle. This is our best showing ever by far, and there are more good things coming, both at States and the continuing playoffs.

Women's Tennis at Conference Tournament
Womens Varsity TennisThe womens' tennis team advanced 4 players to the East Regional. Abby/Anisah dominated in their doubles match and are headed to the tournament as the defending champions. Helen also cruised through to make her second appearance in Greenville. In the best action of the day, Isabelle Murphy fought heat, sickness, bugs hitting her in the eyeball, exhaustion and questionable calling by her opponents to win 2 matches and advance as a singles player. She played for nearly 5 hours in heat indexes approaching 100 degrees. She beat the #3 from Voyager and then the #1 from Roxboro in a 3rd set tie-breaker. It was an awesome performance, by Isabelle and all our players.

FA Women's Tennis In Regional Final
Womens Varsity TennisOn Monday the FA Women's Tennis Team took another big step on its quest to make the State Team Finals. They beat Raleigh Charter, the last 3 years in a row defending champions, 5-1. These players had convincing singles wins: Anisah, Helen, Sydney, Isabelle, and Kali. In the playoffs it is only required to be the first team to get to 5, so we didn't play doubles. Now FA takes on Research Triangle in the East Finals on Wednesday, with the winner going to Burlington on Saturday to play the West champion in the State Finals. We have played RT earlier in the season and won. This is a repeat of the teams in the East Finals for Mens' Tennis, but this time FA has the upper hand. The excellent season continues. GO PATRIOTS!!!!
More About FA Women's Tennis In Regional FinalSison/Armistead State Doubles Champions
Womens Varsity TennisIn a tense, too tense, 2 set match Anisah and Abby won! 7-5,7-6, and it took 2 hours 35 minutes. Their opponent was a team from the perennial tennis powerhouse from the West, Bishop McGuiness. Our two sophomores beat their two seniors in a back and forth, hills and valleys type of match, with Anisah setting up Abby for the final overhead put away. Abby said her tail was wagging when she saw the lob return coming up short and where she could get it. And she did. It was an awesome win and FA's first state championship of any kind in tennis. Next week we take on Raleigh Charter in the team playoffs, a match that, for all purposes, will decide who goes to the State Team Championship. Lets all come out and cheer on the Patriots on Monday at Flaherty. WAY TO GO ANISAH AND ABBY!!!

Patriots JV Volleyball Raises Record to 14-2 with Three Set Victory over Vance Charter
Womens Junior Varsity VolleyballIn a hard-fought, three set contest on Wednesday, the top two JV teams in the conference faced off on Wednesday at the Franklin Academy high school gym. A rematch of an early season matchup won by the Patriots, this hard-fought match ended with the same result, the Lady Patriots triumphing over a very solid Vance Charter squad 25-23, 20-25, 25-12. In a back and forth first set, the FA JV overcame serving and hitting errors to hold on for a 25-23 victory. Hoping to build on the success of the first set, the Patriots started the second set with the serve and things went downhill from there. In what most of the players described as their worst set of the season, the team struggled to find its' enthusiasm and focus which led to many serving errors, passing miscues and a plethora of hitting errors. A second set defeat 20-25 set the stage for the decisive third set. The third set was easily the best set played by the Lady Patriots all season as they

Lady Patriots JV Volleyball Rallies to Down Powerhouse Louisburg Squad
Womens Junior Varsity VolleyballThe Franklin Academy Lady Patriots JV volleyball rallied from a one set deficit to take the victory from a strong Louisburg team. Overcoming many obstacles - at Louisburg; only one practice (this morning) in the last 2 weeks; playing during track out; and missing two players from the normal rotation - the team continued to show that it knows how to win. The rust was clearly evident in the first set as Louisburg forged to a commanding 6-point lead. The Patriots struggled to serve receive and communicate. Unforced errors plagued the team and resulted in a completely dominant 25-16 1st set to Louisburg. The second set started the way the first set ended with Louisburg forging to a 4-0 lead. After a Patriots timeout, junior OH Gabriella Gaviria served several aces and brought the teams back even at 5-5. At this point, the Lady Patriots decided it was time to play volleyball. Led by the setting of sophomore setter Mackenzie Long, the hitting of Gaviria and&n
