At 6pm on Friday, August 25, 2017, Oxford Preparatory High School traveled to 648
Flaherty Avenue where they faced off against Franklin Academy in a four set volleyball match.
Led by Coach Cassandra Daniel of Oxford and Coach Elizabeth Scott for Franklin, the teams
each put up a strong fight battling for each point. Tied at 20-20, Oxford broke out to snatch the
first game 25-23. The next was a show of unforced errors by Oxford. The Griffins gave up 15
points from errors leaving it 25-11 to the Patriots. Miscommunication played a large part in the
third game with FA winning a large amount of points from Oxford errors. FA was able to grab
this game with a simple 25-14 win, making the total set score 2-1 Patriots. Anna Keyser and
Shelby Cooper each played excellent with Oxford’s Victoria Gill and Allie Reader equally as
well. Game four was a brawl to the finish. Both teams served well and defended wonderfully.
The longest recorded rally lasted 35 seconds, the longest of the night. Franklin built up a 17-12
with 5 kills and 4 unforced errors. In what seemed like seconds, Oxford tied the score 21-21.
Either team could have won. FA rallied to 24 leaving Oxford at 21. The Griffins, however,
weren't ready to give up yet, as they fought to pull the game within one point at 23-24. On a final
kill by MacKenzie Bademian, match point was decided and the Patriots came away with the W.
Franklin Academy has an away non-conference match at Research Triangle on Monday, August
28 at 6pm.
